About WhereToStart
WhereToStart exists because the internet is very good at telling you what might be wrong and very bad at telling you what to do next.
What we do
We build free, private navigators that help adults in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom work out which kind of help fits a health concern: an at-home test, a clinician, a therapist, a structured programme, or a change at home. We show the free or covered route first, then paid options that meet our inclusion criteria.
What we don't do
- We don't diagnose, treat, prescribe, or give individual medical advice.
- We don't collect or store anything you enter into a navigator.
- We don't let advertisers influence which options appear or in what order.
- We don't sell tests, medicines, therapy or supplements. Every provider we link to is an independent company responsible for its own service.
Who we are
WhereToStart is published by WhereToStart, owned by MB Digital Design, a small independent studio based in Pasay City, Philippines, building tools for people in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom.
It started with a simple frustration: when someone we cared about had a health worry, the internet was full of pages guessing at what was wrong, and almost none explaining what to actually do next. Should this be a blood test? A GP appointment? A therapist? Is there a free route before paying anyone? WhereToStart exists to answer that question plainly, in a couple of minutes, without asking you to create an account or hand over your details.
How the content is checked. Every navigator is written against published clinical guidance from the NHS, NICE, CDC, USPSTF and Health Canada, with sources listed on our editorial policy page. The content has not yet been independently reviewed by a clinician; we say so plainly rather than pretend otherwise, and we'll update this page when that changes. Nothing here replaces advice from a doctor, nurse or pharmacist who knows you.
How we're funded
WhereToStart is free to use. When you click a link marked Sponsored and buy or sign up, the company pays us a commission. It costs you nothing extra and is the only way the site earns money. Full details are in our advertising and affiliate disclosure.
